In June 2015, the IDEO project (Intergenerational Deaf Education Outreach), implemented by World Concern Development Organization and the Ministry of Education and Training, conducted a project evaluation as we reach the end of the four year timeline and wait for the extension. This was an opportunity for the Project Management Board, the Implementing Agency and all the beneficiaries to review the suitability, effectiveness, impacts and sustainability of the project, as well as discuss difficulties and limits during 4 years of the project implementation since August 2011.

The evaluation was conducted in the 4 project provinces: Ha Noi, Thai Nguyen, Quang Binh and Ho Chi Minh city. To ensure the information was collected from a variety of sources, the survey applied both quantitative and qualitative methods, including group interviews, in-depth interviews with Deaf Family Mentors, Sign Language Interpreters, Leaders from schools and Leaders from the Department of Education and Training. 100 Deaf children were also tested on their Sign Language development and 100 parents were surveyed for their opinions about the project’s model.

The findings from the project evaluation will be shared in the project closing ceremony which will be organized at the end of July 2015 in Hanoi. These findings will contribute lessons learnt for the project management board and project implementation agent, as well as provide suggestions to make strategy plan for similar projects in the future, aiming at education for Deaf children in Vietnam.
