Certification for Family Support Teams – IDEO project

1 On June 18 and 19, 2015 in Thai Nguyen, the Project Management Board and Project Implementing Agent of the IDEO project organized a certification examination for Family Support Teams (FSTs) in the province. After Hanoi, Quang Binh and Ho Chi Minh city, this was the last province to hold the examination to test the capacity of 29 Deaf Family Mentors (DFMs) and 22 Sign Language Interpreters (SLIs) among 111 trainees who attended necessary trainings since the very first days of the project. This activity is under Component 2 of the project, with the purpose of “Developing professional human resources for preschool Deaf education”. The Deaf Family Members (DFM) and the Sign Language Interpreter (SLI) of the first course who fully attended all the trainings by national and international specialists are qualified to receive the certificate issued by the Ministry of Education and Training (MoET). Those are also the core human resource for schools and centers in the 4 project sites, continuing to teach children at age 3-4, 4-5 and from 5 onward and helping Deaf children gain access to sign language based education. The project will also continue to support these schools and centers to maintain and duplicate the model of intergenerational Deaf education to strengthen the children’s readiness for school. The DFMs and the SLIs of the first course will receive the certificates from the MoET, and those from the second course will receive certificates of attendance in the project closing ceremony tentatively planned for the end of July.
